2024–2025 EQAO Results – DDSB Highlights

Posted On Thursday December 04, 2025

The provincial Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) has released the 2024–2025 assessment results for Ontario schools. The Durham District School Board continues to see progress across several assessments, with strong results in the primary grades and continued areas for improvement, particularly in mathematics.

Key Highlights

  • Growth in several assessments: DDSB saw gains in Grade 3 Reading, Writing, and Mathematics; Grade 6 Reading and Writing; Grade 9 Mathematics; and in OSSLT results for multilingual language learners (MLL).
  • Strong performance in the primary division: Grade 3 Reading results are on par with the provincial average, and Grade 3 Mathematics results are above provincial outcomes. Grade 3 Writing also improved this year.
  • Continued progress for multilingual language learners: MLL students showed improvement across most EQAO assessments, including increased success on the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT).
  • Growth for students with Individual Education Plans: Students receiving special education supports demonstrated gains in several assessments across the primary, junior, and secondary levels.
  • Grade 6 Mathematics remains a continued focus: While some areas improved, Grade 6 Math continues to perform below the provincial average and remains a key area for targeted support.

OSSLT results declined slightly, though DDSB’s overall success rate remains close to the provincial average.

Using the Results to Support Student Learning

EQAO provides one of several data points that help us understand student learning and guide school and classroom planning. These results are reviewed alongside classroom assessments, teacher observations, and long-term trends to build a complete picture of student progress.

As part of our Multi-Year Strategic Plan, DDSB continues to strengthen literacy and numeracy instruction through:

  • evidence-based instruction and structured literacy practices
  • digital tools and diagnostic assessments that help identify student strengths and needs
  • targeted supports in schools requiring enhanced intervention
  • ongoing efforts to ensure every student has access to equitable, high-quality learning experiences

These results help refine school improvement planning, inform classroom instruction, and support our commitment to student achievement and well-being.
